"Start of Autumn" turns out to be very hot day

The Very Hot Weather Warning is currently in force. Temperatures in parts of the New Territories are expected to be extremely hot this afternoon, reaching 36°C or above.

Today marks "Start of Autumn" (Liqiu) in the 24 solar terms. Winds along the Guangdong coast are light, and conditions are generally fine, with temperatures in many districts exceeding 30°C before noon.

Urban districts such as Kwun Tong, Tseung Kwan O, Wong Tai Sin, Kowloon City, and Happy Valley all topped 33°C, while Yuen Long surpassed 35°C. Isolated showers and squally thunderstorms are expected later in some areas.

As for Severe Typhoon Dolphin, it will move into the East China Sea, approaching the region between Zhejiang and northern Fujian.

Under the influence of its outer subsiding airstream, daytime weather in Hong Kong will be extremely hot from the weekend through next Monday, reaching 37°C or above in some areas. The high temperatures will also trigger severe thunderstorms.

By mid-next week, the area will be affected by a southwesterly airstream, bringing a few showers.
